God has a sense of humor

So the first few nights in our new house, I prayed a blessing over this home. I asked God to help it be a place where He is the center and that people would feel his love and kindness when they came here. I prayed that I would not let this house be an idol for me and that instead I would use it to serve Him and have it be a safe place where my kids grow in Him and learn from Scott and I. I also prayed that I would not worry about everything having to be perfect and just enjoy this beautiful home that God has blessed us with. Well, be careful what you pray for, lol!!
In the first week here, God made sure to keep me at my word!! It all started with Oliver getting his hands on a pen during our first full day of living here . . . and drawing all over the walls! Yes, he got in trouble, but I was able to find some humor in the situation (it was just paint, after all). The list continues. Since we've moved in, there is a chip in the kitchen tile & a scratch in my countertop, the finish in the bottom of my stainless steel sink was somehow stripped from something we washed in there, there is a dent in my laminate, and Oliver pulled so hard on my beroom curtains that the rod ripped right out of the wall! Yes God, I hear you. Nothing in this world can ever be perfect - I'll leave that job up to you.

Oliver is caught in the act of drawing on - count 'em - FIVE walls with four different paint colors.

oh my goodness Brandi! I can't believe all of that happened in your first week, and what's even more amazing is your attitude:)! Good for you for having such great perspective...I think I'd be having a meltdown;p But you're right, it's just a house...a beautiful one that is now VERY lived in;)

I think that's normal if you're moving into a new house and have small children (although it's not all the children's fault either). I too thought when we built our house it would be perfect and unblemished for a long time. Well we have a scratch in our cabinets from the builders, bubble in our BR door, and lots of scuffs on our paint already too and more. The first day we were living here Curt dropped a big splat of salsa on our LR floor, which was a little frustrating. :) Anyway, it's life. Enjoy your new house!

oh no, I would be alittle frustrated but I am glad that you are being able to see God in it all, it's hard sometimes. Keep enjoying your house, it's a blessing even if it's not perfect anymore :)

Oh my goodness! I had a good chuckle over this post! Lol! I love how innocent Oliver looks in the pictures...

I admire the way you're viewing of your home. God will bless you for that!

Good attitude :) Poor little Oliver looks so sober...I hope that means he will save his artistic qualities for where it belongs!! Cristina disagrees & says art does belong on the wall.(heheh)

NO WAY!!! What are the chances??? That is just crazy! He has such a sad, guilty little face. Too cute! :D

Oh man, I feel for you. Two weeks ago I tackled the pen/marker/pencil/crayon marks covering the walls of Garth and Wendy's house (their little Zach has literally scribbled on every surface in this house). I found magic erasers work with a little elbow grease. The only problem was where the pen had gouged lines into the paint.
But I think it's a really good idea to bless a house with prayer. It sounds as if it's already come in handy in the attitude department!
