Creature Feature Part II

Okay, so last spring, Amber blogged about the yucky animals they had been having around their house and titled her post Creature Feature. I am now utterly discusted with creatures that have been around our house this summer and so I am posting part 2! I am so freaked out right now that my feet are up on my chair - yes!! Our creatures this summer have not been outside of our house but inside - it's an invasion!!!

It all started in spring when Scott woke me up one morning while he was saying hello to Kalia by aking "Brandi . . . have you left the door open lately?" I responded promptly with "What is it?! I don't want to know!! Don't make me come over there!" But he did, and I saw a little baby frog hopping around in Kalia's room! So, Scott put it in a box and brought it outside. Whew, that was over with . . . or so we thought. The next week I was making my bed, and say something move out of the corner of my eye. I just thought it was a piece of lint that had fallen on the ground, but much to my dismay, the lint hopped, and sure enough it was another frog!! I quickly put a cup over it so it couldn't hop away and called Scott in a panicked voice. However, since he was at work, I had to get rid of it myself, so I slid a piece of cardboard under it, and flung it out the front door. By this time I was wondering where they came from. Two frogs is NO coincidence! A few days later, I was walking down the hall, and hop hop hop in front of me went another little baby frog!! Scott and I could not figure out where they were coming from, and by this time, I started to wear shoes around the house. Then, just when I thought our house was safe from these slimy critters, one sat on my bathroom floor the next week staring up at me. Eww! Now, I normally don't mind frogs, but in the house?!? One is funny, two is weird, three is just plain gross, but four? That's just plain freakish!! Unfortunately, we never figured out where they came from, but fortunately, they haven't come back since.

Anyways, this frog business seems like a walk in the park compared to what I am dealing with now!! A few nights ago, we heard a strange noise as we were falling asleep. I didn't think anything of it, though. I just credited it to our fan hitting a stray piece of paper in the office, or possibly the plastic inside of Kalia's diaper genie unraveling (happens sometimes). However, in the morning I heard the sound again and checked the aforementioned items which were both not the culprit. Then, I realized that the noise was coming from my little makeup room off of our bedroom. I saw some half-deflated helium balloons brushing against my metal garbage can, so I moved them away. The noise continued, and I realized it was coming from the cupboard under the sink. Okay, so we've had a water leak problem there before, so I simply thought that water must be dripping onto a plasic bag or one of my Mary Kay magazines or something. I opened the door - no water. As I closed the door, I saw out of the corner of my eye that one of the magazines was all ripped. That's strange, I thought, I don't remember ripping any pages out of that one. Then it dawned on me - I knew exactly what kind of creature ripped paper - a mouse!!! I am terrified of mice, people - I almost started crying. Luckily, I was going to Winnipeg with my Scott's mom and his fearless sister, Kaitlyn, that day. I called Scott, who told me to call them with instructions to bring some traps. I waited in fear to call until a decent hour (7:45) but Scott had already called there. Help was on the way. So, Kaitlyn set the traps, and off we went to Winnipeg. I went home with them after, afraid to be alone at home, until Scott was done work.

When Scott and I got home the trap was empty. I tried to console myself by thinking that it had found its way back outside, but it didn't really work. However, I felt much braver with Scott at home. He chekced outside to find the problem spot where the critter could have entered the house while I stood WAY on the other end of the house. After a few hours, I was quite relaxed already and so when Erik called Scott and offered him a ride to hockey in the city at 10:00 that night, I foolishly told him I would be okay and he could go. As the dark grew, so did my fear. I ended up sleeping on the couch until Scott came home and - Praise God - found the mouse caught in the trap. He told me to close my eyes, and brought it outside, and thankfully we've had none since (though the traps are still set). I still wear shoes in my bedroom and do NOT go into my little makeup room unless I absolutely have to. ICK!

Oh Brandi! That was an awesome post! Thanks for sharing - and sorry for the trauma you had to endure. Frogs and mice are both issues for me. A few weeks ago, I was riving our lawn mower past a culvert and I saw a mouse, I screamed and put my feet up (you know, just in case it would run up to this hideously loud mower and jump up and attack me) and kept mowing. But I didn't go close to that area for a long time!!

The NERVE of those creatures to invade your space!! They have the whole world to explore! I would have moved out!!

Good for you to even be able to stay in your house with all those creatures. I couldn't have done it. Frogs gross me out and mice, well that is a totally different story. EWWWWWWW. Good thing Kalia is small enough yet that she didn't have to try and understand what was going on!

Oh no! When I started reading your post I cringed at what your creature feature would be, but I was relieved and thought "Oh good, Brandi has already told me the froggy stories" THEN I realized that there were more creatures. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. Ewww. Hopefully Scott can figure out where these unwanted guests are getting in...and fast!

oh my gosh! what a horrible story. i would have freaked out if that was my house. good thing it wasn't cause i'm pretty sure hannah would have thought that playing with frogs would have been fun.

Oh Brandi! That's awful! I hope you are rid of your unwanted guests now. Our latest invasion is crickets. There are tonnes of them in our basement every day. Just gross!

Wow, Frogs! I have never heard of people having frogs in their house before. I thought we had a mouse but it turned out to be crickets in the walls.
Hope you can sleep now.

Hi Brandi!

Amber said...

How are you doing today?

Amber said...

How long did it take you to get back to your M&D's yesterday?

Amber said...

We figured Scott must have driven like a maniac!

Amber said...

So we guessed it took 15 minutes to get there.

Amber said...

I'm sure Kalia was very happy to see you.

Amber said...

She's such a cutie!

Amber said...

I'm sure your M&D and Crissy were very thrilled to be the first babysitters!

Amber said...

I'm proud of you for holding up so well last night...

Amber said...

at least it seemed like you were doing well :)

Amber said...

I just put Hailey down for a nap.

Amber said...

She went to sleep very well.

Amber said...

AND!

Amber said...

She slept right through the night, until 8:15 this morning!!

Amber said...

Kalia would be so proud of her :)

Amber said...

Well, I should get some work done while she is napping.

Amber said...

Hope you are having a good day!

Amber said...

Give Kalia a kiss from Hailey & me!

Amber said...

Love Ya!

Amber said...

Oh! One more thing!

Amber said...

Did you know Scott paid for my supper yesterday instead of yours?

Amber said...

And in turn Erik paid for your supper instead of mine...

Amber said...

...which turned out to be a $10 difference or something like that!

Amber said...

So you guys got a good deal on supper ;)

Amber said...

Alright, I really have to go now.

Amber said...

Talk to you later!!

Amber you are hilarious!!! Cristina called and told me I had 34 comments and we (along with mom) had a great laugh over this! You're the best. Now I feel so popular to have so many comments on one post! And yes, Erik texted Scott to tell him about the supper mix up. We only drove 120 on the way home because mom called and said Kalia quit crying.

Amber said...

I'm glad you got a kick out of it :)

Amber said...

So, in other words Scott drove his normal speed on the way home?

Amber said...

I'm glad Kalia quit crying by the time you got there.

Amber said...

Hopefully that was the start of some hot dates for you & Scott!

Amber said...

Well, gotta go.

Amber said...

We are off to Wpg for supper.

Amber said...

Again.

Amber said...

Two nights in a row.

Amber said...

You would think money grows on trees over here.

Amber said...

Okay already!

Amber said...

This is getting old ;)

Amber said...

The silly word identifications are getting more and more complex.

Amber said...

Have a good night!

Ha! Those comments are crazy, I was just over at Amy's and she was saying that you had said no one ever comments on your blog, When I saw 50 I figured it had to do with that!!
Kalia is such a cutie, you are a lucky mom!
