Getting ready to go home!

So for those of you who are wondering how my labour was and who are wanting to see more pictures, this post is for you! For the previous two weeks or so I had been feeling very impatient and discouraged about not having the baby yet. Even though I only ended up going a week overdue, the doctor had long figured I would have the baby since I had been so sick through my pregnancy, and the baby was also very low and "ready." I was also having VERY consistant and regular contractions. Sometimes almost a whole day with them 5 minutes apart! So I waited and I waited. A couple of nights I even had that nervous and anxious feeling like tonight could be the night. But little Oliver was much too comfy inside of me I suppose! So I waited and waited some more and then on Sunday after a family gathering I told Scott, "Something feels different today." I could walk fine, but as soon as I tried to pick up the pace to chase after Kalia my body just wouldn't let me do it. I had lost my mucous plug already and had my "bloody show" the day before, so I knew progress was being made and it wouldn't be long. In the afternoon we went to my mom and dad's to celebrate Mother's Day together. Dad and Scott went golfing while the girls sat out in the beautiful sunshine on the porch. Suddenly I felt something strange. I rushed into the bathroom and although I was fairly sure my water hadn't completely broken, I figured it was leaking. I went straight to the "what to expect" website on the internet and then went out to my mom and sisters with an update. We went for a walk down the driveway and by the time supper came around I had felt leaking 3 or 4 more times. After supper I called the hospital and the nurse said I should probably come in and get checked out. I wasn't having any noteable contractions or anything so Scott and I decided to relax a bit so that I could eat desert and he could watch Coaches Corner before leaving. We left mom's at around 8, and decided that even if we were sent home Kalia should stay there for night. Kalia even had a suitcase all packed and ready to go! After saying a prayer all together, we took off for the hospital. Even though my contractions weren't painful at ALL (hardly even uncomfortable) we decided to time them while we drove. 5 minutes apart, just like usual. Every contraction in my last labour was very hard and strong so we didn't think anything of these really. We were setting ourselves up for either being sent home or spending a long night in the hospital waiting for my labour to start. As we walked into the hospital, I felt another "gush" and then as we stood at the admitting desk, my water broke!! So up to a room we were sent, and waited to be checked out by a nurse. We were talking and joking around and totally relaxed even once the nurse came in. To my suprise, I was already 6 cm dialated!! Still no pain though. She checked again a few minutes later and was shocked to see that the head was down and looked ready to come out so she called the doctor and told him to get his butt to the hospital, especially since my labour with Kalia was only 4 hours start to finish. At this time, I got up to go to the bathroom and that's when they hit - the most brutal and painful contractions that you could ever imagine!! It was about 9:45 or so. I went through a under an hour (thankfully with a gas mask) of this excruciating pain and then I could feel that I was ready to push. The pushing lasted a little longer than with Kalia because the doctor slowed it down a bit to help me stretch out. Suddenly they were telling me that the head was out, and before long announced that I had a little boy!!! He was born at 10:58, still making it on time to give me an AWESOME mother's day gift. I instantly fell in love with him and felt so proud of the new little addition to our family. I am so thankful to God for blessing us with such a healthy little boy to love and snuggle with. I can't think of a better wat to experience to love of God than by holding such a preciousl little baby. It's amazing how even with all of the trials I went through with my pregnancy, it all just seems worth it when I look into those little eyes.

Wow, thanks for sharing your story. I am "anxiously" waiting at home these days too. I thought you were only 1 day over, but I feel a little better knowing you were a week over due! lol. I have NO idea what to expect with contractions, etc. except from what books say, but obviously babies don't come according to what books say! I am so happy for you guys and praise God that He brought a healthy baby boy into your lives after all the struggles you ensued these past couple of months. Continue to take care as your family of 4 and I hope to be sharing our birth story soon - keeping our fingers crossed!

Thanks for sharing your story, Brandi - even though you told me over the phone, it was still fun to read it! You look absolutley GORGEOUS, by the way, and SO happy! I can hardly wait to meet little Oliver in a couple months - he'll be so big by then, though.

I can't believe you only had pain for an hour!!!! UNREAL! I can only hope that my second labor will go as well...

I love labour stories! And I'm thinkin if I were you, I'd love that labour! You're so lucky! Congatulations on having a boy, you now have one of each! I love having a boy, they're very fun (as I'm sure girls are too, you just love your own kids right?) Can't wait to hear what it's like having 2 kids, and I love the name Oliver, he looks very cute!
